Calvary Children's Home Ride
< Back

On June 7th, 2008 we finally made it back to the Calvary Children's Home at about 10am in the morning. As we pulled into the driveway, we were greeted with huge smiles and about a dozen kids chasing alongside our bikes to the circle at the end of the drive. The children were full of anticipation and enthusiasm. One Child even had his own helmet, although it was a batting helmet, he was ready to ride none the less. We spent the next two hours riding the children on our bikes. One child rode at least 8 times and was ready to keep riding each time we returned from our trip around  the block.

I recall being behind one of the kids as we rode down the road, I could only imagine how big his smile was because from behind I knew he was having the time of his life. As we started our trip around the block, the engines revved up and the wind was blowing in our faces, the boy was hooting and hollering with praises of happiness, his arms and fists were pumping into the air as we jaunted down the road.

At the end of our visit, we presented each child with a grab bag full of whatnots, trinkets and goodies that we collected during the week prior to our visit. Many of our Legion Riders, including myself eagerly look forward to this trip because it is very rewarding for the children as well us big children.
