Welcomes Troops to Atlanta for the Christmas Holidays at the Atlanta Airport

On Sunday December 20th, 2009 the American Legion Riders Post 111 of Dallas, GA made a trip to the Atlanta Airport to give a warm welcome home our brave heroes that are serving overseas in the military. We were joined by friends, family, Jr. ROTC members, as well as other branches of the American Legion, including Legionnaires, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion. We combined our efforts in the weeks prior to this to sign hundreds of Christmas cards, make gift packs full of candies and homemade cookies to give to the troops.

A few troops had family waiting for their arrival and many did not as they were passing trough Atlanta for their next stop. We applauded as each member reached the top of the escalator. We watched members from the USO (which some were also Legion members) give warm hugs and provided direction to the troops to make their journey a little easier as they came to Atlanta. Many of the troops were carrying rucksacks and gear that had to weigh 50 to 75 pounds and they stopped to allow us to shake their hand and thank them for their service. Many of them were very gracious and thanked us for our efforts.

Plans are already underway for our next visit in February. If you would like more information or would like to join us on our next trip, visit our website, call or stop by our American Legion Post in Dallas on Scoggins Road to find out what you can do. We are good people doing great things...
